Biodiversity reporting refers to the systematic measurement and disclosure of an organization’s impact on biodiversity and ecosystems. Just as financial reporting provides insights into a company’s economic performance, biodiversity reporting sheds light on its environmental footprint.
International initiatives, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Planetary Boundaries, as well as The Dasgupta Review, highlight biodiversity as essential for the sustainability of natural and socioeconomic systems.
Direct biodiversity-related considerations related to the SDGs include life below water (SDG 14) and life on land (SDG 15). In addition, biodiversity underpins many actions needed to meet the other SDGs, for example playing a pivotal role in tackling hunger (SDG 2), good health and well-being (SDG 3), promoting responsible consumption and production (SDG 12) and climate action (SDG 13). Biodiversity is integral to the planetary boundary of biosphere integrity, as well as adaptation to climate change, land-system change and ocean acidification.
Our service is focused to sensitize, guide and mentor Indian businesses and organizations in biodiversity conservation and sustainable use related to their operations, across their value chain and beyond towards conservation of India’s biodiversity.
Biodiversity-related corporate reporting is a fast-moving, developing area, and there is ongoing work to create harmonization particularly related to measurement and disclosure.
We mentor businesses and organizations for Biodiversity awareness and conservation practices as per Indian Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) and Biodiversity reporting as per GRI reporting framework.
Biodiversity has both business and societal value. It is integral to businesses, economies, and wider society, being the living component of natural capital and underpinning the ecosystem services people receive from nature.
Our services include
Assessment for Biodiversity Reporting
Baseline Data Collection: Comprehensive primary data collection to identify and document the existing flora and fauna species, their habitats, and ecological processes in the project area through field surveys, literature reviews, and interaction with local communities.
Habitat Mapping: Detailed mapping of different habitat types to understand the distribution and extent of various ecosystems. Identifying areas of high ecological value and potential impacts from various activities.
Threat Analysis: A thorough analysis of potential threats to biodiversity, both direct and indirect through assessment of the impacts by activities like infrastructure development, industrial operations and associated activities.
Ecological Impact Assessment: The ecological impact of existing or proposed activities/ projects on species, habitats, and ecological processes will be evaluated. This assessment considers both short-term and long-term impacts, including potential cumulative effects.s.
Mitigation Planning for Biodiversity Net Gain Objective
- Avoidance and Minimization Measures: Identification of suitable areas for biodiversity offsetting, where the impacts on biodiversity can be compensated through restoration or conservation activities. The plan will ensure that the offsetting measures result in no net loss of biodiversity.
- Biodiversity Offsetting: Identification of suitable areas for biodiversity offsetting, where the impacts on biodiversity can be compensated through restoration or conservation activities. The plan will ensure that the offsetting measures result in no net loss of biodiversity.
- Monitoring and Adaptive Management: Designing/ suggesting of a robust monitoring program to assess the effectiveness of mitigation measures. The plan includes provisions for adaptive management, allowing for adjustments based on monitoring results and changing circumstances.
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG):Adoption & implementation of mitigation plan to assess the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) from the project activity. BNG ensures that every new development/ operational adaptations will improve natural habitats and protect wildlife, plants and ecosystems from further losses. BNG often requires at least 10% increase in biodiversity after development compared to the level of biodiversity before the development.
Biodiversity Awareness Workshop: A short one-day program for school and corporate clients specially designed to sensitize them regarding the importance of biodiversity.
Biodiversity Trails: Exciting short trails for students and corporate clients for experiencing biodiversity first hand. We can customize these trails as per the requirement.
Corporate Training Program on Sustainability: Bespoke program for corporate and business houses to understand about ESG and Sustainability Reporting with special focus on biodiversity. The program is a series of Basic, Mid-level and Advanced level. It comprises of is a bouquet of complete hands on experiential learning modules.
